FIDA Recognized Dr. Ruth Abiola Adimula with Meritorious Service Award

On  December 9, 2023, the “Federación Internacional dé Abogadas” (FIDA) which translates to “International Federation of Women Lawyers”, FIDA Nigeria  Kwara State Chapter recognized the Principal Partner of Biola Adimula & Co. – Dr. Ruth Abiola Adimula with the award of meritorious service for her many years of dedication and commitment to the Association.

Although, the Honoree was unavoidably absent at the event, but she was ably represented by the Counsels and Associates in the office namely: Barr. Titilope Adeyemi (the Principal Partner of Titilope Adeyemi & Co.), Barr. Florence Giwa (The Head of Chambers, Biola Adimula & Co.) and Barr. Adeife.

Dr. Ruth Abiola Adimula co-authored a new Research on the efficient management of internally displaced persons (IDP) camps with Prof. Olugbenga Mokuolu

An Associate Professor at the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria- Dr. Ruth Abiola Adimula has led a study on efficient management of internally displaced persons (IDP) camps along with a co-author, Prof. Olugbenga Mokuolu in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health University of Ilorin. In their research titled “Leadership Effectiveness in the Care of Internally Displaced Persons and Camps in Africa”, published in an International Journal- Open Journal of Leadership, the Scholars formulated a four-phase structural management theory, describing the stages of displacement as “After-shock”. “Stabilisation”, “Empowerment” & “Re-integration”, each with its peculiarities. The study made recommendations on how the government and other relevant stakeholders can apply this structural theory for efficient management of displaced persons and camps. Dr. Adimula is a Lawyer and a Peace Scholar with bias in Gender, Refugees and IDPs management. She is a Fellow of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice.

Dr. Biola Adimula Profile for AfCFTA Investigation Work

Dr. Ruth Abiola Adimula, the CEO of Women and Child Watch Initiatives, a NGO registered in Nigeria in 2004 and was granted a United Nations ECOSOC Status in 2017, is the Lead investigator on a study of the IMPLICATIONS OF AFRICAN CONTINENTAL FREE TRADE AREA AGREEMENT (AfCFTA)  ON THE WOMEN SHUTTLE CROSS-BORDER TRADERS IN WEST AFRICA. She led a four (4) man researchers- Prof. Adebusuyi Adeniran (Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife Nigeria); Dr. Catherine Adegoke (Management Consultant, Nigeria); and Mrs Ayodeji Adeyemo (Business Analyst, Canada). Findings of the study revealed that the level of the knowledge of AfCFTA by the petty women traders, the security challenges in cross-border trading, gender discrimination experiences, implications of government policies on cross border trading, especially for women  cross-border traders in West Africa.

The full report was presented in an academic forum-APERO BROWN LECTURE SERIES of University of Georgia, USA and ECOWAS Department of Trade in November, 2023. Audience has described the rich, erudite and expansive study as a document that can chat a path for Women and free trade in Africa with relevant collaboration and partnerships.

 Dr Adimula is an Associate Professor in University of Ilorin, Fellow, Society for Peace Studies and Practice, a Council Member of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria; the immediate Past Chairperson of Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT), Nigeria and the Pioneer Regional Chairperson of SWIT West Africa.

Dr. Ruth Abiola Adimula hosted as a Guest Lecturer at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Center

An Associate Professor at the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria, a Peace Scholar and a Legal Practitioner, Dr. Ruth Abiola Adimula, fspsp, was a Guest Lecturer at the just concluded Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Jaji Nigeria, held at the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration, Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria, for the  International  ANTI-PIRACY COURSE 5/23 of Participants from across West African States. Her well researched lecture on the topic ”CHILDREN IN MARINE PIRACY: CAUSES, CONSEQUENCES AND LEGAL RESPONSES” was described by participants as expository, extensive and widely educative, as it discussed various issues including the overview of United Nations  Convention on the Rights of the Child; Root Causes of Juvenille/Child Piracy; Consequences of Recruiting Children into Piracy;  Treatment/Punishment and Prosecution  of Juvenile Pirates, among others. Interestingly, Dr. Adimula was a Distinguished Guest Lecturer at the National Institute of Security Studies, Abuja Nigeria in 2020 on Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea: Legal Implications for International Trade and Sustainable Development. Also between February and June 2021, she served as a member of Review Committee and Validation team of Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, a UNDP and Japan Project of Martin Luther Agwai Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Jaji Nigeria. As an expert on Marine Piracy and its security and legal implications, Dr. Adimula  has carved a niche for herself.
